PMP® Certification Validity Period:

PMP® certification is valid for three years from the certificate's issuance date.

PMP® Certification Renewal Cost:

The PMP renewal fee for your PMP® certification depends on whether you are a PMI member or not:

• PMI Members: Pay a renewal fee of $60.
• Non-Members: Pay a renewal fee of $150.

You will pay this fee online when you submit your renewal application. If you don’t renew the certification on time, your PMP certification status will be marked as 'suspended.' It will remain suspended for up to one year, during which you should complete all the necessary steps to renew it and pay the PMI renewal fee. If you exceed the one-year suspended period and fail to earn the required PDUs, your PMP certification status will be changed to 'expired.' In such a scenario, you will need to retake the PMP exam.

Step-by-Step Process for Renewal of PMP® Certification:

If you are a project management professional holding the prestigious Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification, here’s what you need to know:

Step 1: Renewal Cycle:

• PMP® certification must be renewed every three years to maintain its validity.
• Your renewal cycle starts from the date you initially earned your certification.

Step 2: Professional Development Units (PDUs):

To renew your PMP® certification, you must earn 60 PDUs (Professional Development Units)  within each 3-year cycle.

Step 3: To earn PDUs for PMP® certification :

• Through Education (minimum 35 PDUs): These are mandatory PDUs required for certification renewal. Within these 35 PDUs, you need to earn a minimum of 8 PDUs each, calculated based on ways of working, power skills, and business acumen. Once you've filled each section, distribute any remaining PDUs among the three sections.
• Through Giving Back (maximum 25 PDUs): These are optional PDUs and are not considered mandatory requirements. Of the maximum 25 PDUs, a maximum of 8 PDUs can be earned by "working as a professional." The remaining 17 PDUs are earned through volunteering and knowledge creation.

Step 4: CCR System:

• Log in to the PMI website and access the Continuing Certification Requirement System (CCRS).
• Enter your earned PDUs into the CCR system.

Step 5: Renewal Timing:

• You can submit your renewal application and payment early—your cycle dates won’t change.
• Even if you submit payment before your certification expires, your new cycle end date will be three years from your current certification expiration date.

Important things to remember

Once you submit payment—even if you submit it before your certification expires—your new cycle end date will be three years from your current certification expiration date. 

For example: Your certification renewal date is 1 July 2024. You renew on 1 March 2024. Your certification renewal date will be 1 July 2027 (three years from the original renewal date).
