Google AI Course Free Options: What Google Actually Offers
Looking for a Google AI course free of cost? Google runs three separate tracks: free badge courses on Google Skills, paid certificates on Coursera, and a free technical course for developers.
Google Skills: free AI courses by Google with badges
In October 2025, Google launched Google Skills, a single platform that replaced Google Cloud Skills Boost. It combines content from Google Cloud, Google DeepMind and Grow with Google, with nearly 3,000 courses and labs. Old Cloud Skills Boost links now redirect to Google Skills. Google also lets users request 150 free learning credits, and Google Cloud customers keep free access to the full Google Cloud library.
The best starting point is the beginner path built around Introduction to Generative AI. These free AI courses by Google are short, need no coding, and each one earns a badge:
| Course | Approximate time | Credential |
| Introduction to Generative AI | 45 minutes | Free badge |
| Introduction to Large Language Models | Short microlearning course | Free badge |
| Introduction to Responsible AI | About 15 minutes | Free badge |
| Prompt Design in Agent Platform | About 1 hour, with hands-on labs | Counts towards a skill badge |
When Google introduced the Generative AI Fundamentals skill badge, it bundled the first three courses (Introduction to Generative AI, Introduction to Large Language Models and Introduction to Responsible AI) at no cost. Prompt design is not part of that badge.
Note the name change. After Vertex AI was expanded into the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform in April 2026, the course once called Prompt Design in Vertex AI now appears as Prompt Design in Agent Platform. It covers prompt engineering, image analysis and multimodal techniques with Gemini, contributes to a skill badge, and Google says a challenge lab is a faster route to that badge. The labs use the Google Cloud console but involve little coding.
If you want a Google artificial intelligence course online free with certificate, this path is the closest match. You earn digital badges rather than formal certificates, but they are verifiable and easy to add to LinkedIn. Check whether a lab uses credits before starting it.
Google AI Essentials and Prompting Essentials on Coursera
Google AI Essentials is Google's paid beginner programme on Coursera. It is now a five-course Specialization for beginners, with modules covering Introduction to AI, Maximize Productivity With AI Tools, Discover the Art of Prompting, Use AI Responsibly and Stay Ahead of the AI Curve. Coursera describes it as taking under 10 hours. It needs no coding and ends with a shareable Google certificate.
The cost is USD 49 per month after a 7-day free trial in the US and Canada, and Coursera says prices vary by country. The course FAQ states it cannot be taken free after the trial, though financial aid is available. Google Prompting Essentials, four short courses on writing better prompts, follows the same trial and pricing model.
Coursera does not publish an India price on these course pages. Its region-aligned India pricing, announced in September 2025, says Professional Certificates and Specializations start at Rs 1,699 per month, so expect a figure in that range at checkout.
Machine Learning Crash Course: Google's free technical option
The Machine Learning Crash Course (MLCC) on Google for Developers is a free, refreshed course for people who want to understand how machine learning really works. Modules cover regression and classification, working with data, neural networks, embeddings, an introduction to LLMs, production ML and fairness.
Google's own module estimates add up to roughly 13.5 hours of content. You will need basic Python and school-level algebra and statistics; Google says calculus is optional. The page does not mention a certificate, so treat MLCC as a skills course, not a credential.
Verdict: Google's free credentials are the Google Skills badges; its Coursera certificates are paid unless financial aid is approved. For a Google AI certification free of charge, take the Google Skills generative AI path. Add MLCC if you want technical depth. Pay for Google AI Essentials only if you specifically want the Coursera-issued Google certificate on your CV.
Coursera AI Course Options: What Is Still Free in 2026?
Coursera hosts many of the best AI courses Coursera learners know, including courses from DeepLearning.AI, Google, IBM, Stanford and leading universities. Whether you choose a Coursera AI course for general knowledge, a Coursera artificial intelligence course from a university or a coding-heavy machine learning programme, the payment rules are now the same.
The August 2025 audit change
On 8 August 2025, Coursera announced a new course preview experience that replaced its free audit option. Learners can now preview the first module of nearly every course free, including videos and assessments where available. Full content and certificates need payment. Certain Community Impact courses remain free, and eligible learners can still apply for financial aid to get full access.
Older blogs that say "audit for free" are now outdated. Coursera free AI courses today means a free first module, a free trial, or financial aid.
Coursera pricing in India
Coursera introduced region-aligned pricing for India in September 2025:
| Coursera option | India price (September 2025) |
| Coursera Plus monthly | Rs 2,099 per month |
| Coursera Plus annual | Rs 13,999 per year |
| Professional Certificates and Specializations | From Rs 1,699 per month |
| Individual course | Rs 2,699 |
Coursera Plus covers more than 10,000 courses from over 350 partners, so the annual plan suits learners taking several courses in a year. Check the final price at checkout, as promotions appear from time to time.
Financial aid: how to apply
Financial aid is the main route to a free certificate on Coursera. Find the financial aid link next to the enrolment options on the course page, then explain your situation and how the course fits your career goals, honestly and specifically. Apply for one course at a time, starting with the one you are most likely to finish.
AI for Everyone by Andrew Ng
AI for Everyone is the best-known beginner course on the platform. It is taught by Andrew Ng, founder of DeepLearning.AI and co-founder of Coursera. The course runs 6 hours 54 minutes across 35 video lessons and 4 graded assignments, which works out to about 4 weeks at 2 to 3 hours a week. It needs no technical background and no coding.
It covers AI terminology, how ML and data science projects work, AI strategy for companies, and AI's impact on society. DeepLearning.AI lists the certificate at USD 49 for 180 days of certificate eligibility on Coursera, with financial aid through Coursera, or through a DeepLearning.AI Pro membership.
Other Andrew Ng courses
- Generative AI for Everyone: about 5 hours across 32 video lessons, beginner level, no coding needed. Graded assignments and the certificate need Pro.
- Machine Learning Specialization (Stanford Online and DeepLearning.AI): three courses over about 95 hours, using Python with NumPy, scikit-learn and TensorFlow. It expects basic programming and high-school maths.
DeepLearning.AI free course options and Pro pricing
DeepLearning.AI moved to a freemium model in 2025. Free members can watch course videos and use the forum. Quizzes, interactive labs, saved progress and certificates need Pro, which costs USD 25 per month billed annually or USD 30 billed monthly. So a DeepLearning.AI free course is free to watch, but not free to certify.
Verdict: Coursera remains the best choice for depth and university or industry branding. Use the free first module to test a course, then either pay, use Coursera Plus, or apply for financial aid.
Microsoft AI Course Free Options
Microsoft is the clearest case of "learn free, pay to certify". Microsoft Learn hosts free, self-paced modules on AI concepts, Azure AI services and responsible AI. You can study as much as you like without paying.
AI-900 is retired: meet AI-901
If you have read older guides, update one important fact. Exam AI-900 retired on 30 June 2026. The Azure AI Fundamentals certification now uses exam AI-901, Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals, whose English version was updated on 15 April 2026.
The new exam assesses two areas: identifying AI concepts and capabilities, and implementing AI solutions with Microsoft Foundry. It covers AI workloads, machine learning principles on Azure, computer vision, natural language processing and generative AI workloads.
Key points for Indian learners:
- Exam price: set by the country where the exam is proctored. Microsoft does not show a single fee on the page, so check the India price when you register.
- Learning material: at the time of checking, the certification page said learning paths for AI-901 were not yet available, so lean on general Microsoft Learn AI modules for now.
- Practice: Microsoft offers a free practice assessment through AI Skills Navigator.
- Account: Microsoft recommends registering with a personal Microsoft account.
Free events and India programmes
AI Skills Fest 2026, a free virtual event held from 8 to 12 June 2026, gave a free certification exam voucher to people who completed a learning playlist, so watch for similar events. In India, Microsoft's ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA programme offers free skilling in AI, Copilot, prompt engineering and security through training partners.
Verdict: Learn free on Microsoft Learn. Pay for AI-901 only if you are targeting Azure-focused roles. If you are new to cloud, the Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) course builds the cloud basics that AI-901 assumes.
IBM AI Course Free: SkillsBuild AI Fundamentals
IBM SkillsBuild offers one of the very few big-brand AI credentials that is free from start to finish. The Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals badge is issued through Credly and listed as free.
To earn it, you register as a SkillsBuild user, complete IBM's course set, pass the graded quizzes and final assessment, and finish practice simulations. Skills covered include AI applications, AI ethics, neural networks, chatbots, computer vision, deep learning, machine learning, natural language processing and IBM Watson Studio.
Credly labels the badge Intermediate, but the course is conceptual with no coding, so motivated beginners can manage it. A second version, Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals with Capstone Project, adds a practical project.
Verdict: If you want an IBM AI course free of cost with a shareable credential, this is the one to take. It is broader than Google's intro badges and costs nothing.
AWS Skill Builder and the AI Practitioner Exam
Amazon Web Services follows Microsoft's model. AWS Skill Builder includes free AI foundational training inside its Exam Prep Plans, and the paid credential is the AWS Certified AI Practitioner exam (AIF-C01).

- Weeks 11 to 14, a credential: IBM SkillsBuild AI Fundamentals for free, or NPTEL if you want IIT-backed certification.
- Weeks 15 to 20, depth: CS50 AI or fast.ai, plus OpenAI Academy for generative AI tools.
- Throughout, projects: build two or three small projects and publish them on GitHub.
If you are completely new, follow the order in our AI course for beginners guide, which explains each stage in more detail. A Python training course can speed up step 2 if you prefer live teaching.
Limits of Big-Platform Free AI Courses
Free courses are excellent for exploring, but they have limits:
- No live trainer. Forums help, but no one reviews your code or answers questions in real time.
- Generic examples. Global courses rarely use examples from Indian workplaces or industries.
- Certificate costs add up. Several paid certificates and exams can cost more than one structured programme.
- Self-paced drop-off. Without deadlines or a cohort, many learners never finish.
- Badges are not degrees. Badges prove learning, but projects and interviews still decide hiring.
